In Cow Chair, a domestic scene is reshaped into something curious and quietly surreal. A striped vase of tulips, vibrant and slightly unruly, sits on the corner of a table in the lower left, anchoring the composition with color and light. One bloom droops tenderly, pointing the eye to the chair behind it, upholstered in an unmistakable black-and-white cowhide pattern. The chair is part functional object, part character. While light glints off the flowers, the blue gray background is more somber, giving the scene a more complex emotional feel.  More representational than some of the artist's works, yet still unrefined and slightly off-kilter.  Unframed, 16 x 20, and priced at $320.
